Atlas & Ajax

— The Sons of Thunder

Atlas and Ajax are two beloved Haflinger geldings in their mid-twenties who have spent their lives serving others with strength, heart, and dignity. Known affectionately as  The Sons of Thunder , they now call our farm home, where they’re living out their well-earned retirement years with love, care, and purpose.

Atlas  is our gentle giant — slow, steady, and endlessly patient. His calm nature and deep kindness make him the perfect partner for young or timid students. He thrives on scratches, soft brushes, and affectionate rubs, and he’s always first in line at the feed bucket. A history of hard years working as part of a commercial trail string has left Atlas with  PPID (Cushing’s Disease)  and dental damage from prolonged use of a harsh bit. Because of this, he’s on a specialized, fully soaked feed diet that’s essential to his health and comfort.

Ajax , on the other hand, is full of spark and spirit. He’s our eager explorer — a confident, responsive, and reliable trail horse who still has plenty of fire in his belly. While he doesn’t care much for cuddles, Ajax comes alive when given a job to do. Whether it’s leading the way on a trail ride or playing in the pasture, he’s happiest with a purpose and space to shine.

These two noble souls have given so much. Now, they deserve the best we can give in return. 🌾  Please consider making a donation  to support Atlas and Ajax in their retirement. Your gift helps cover their special feed, veterinary care, and the daily love and attention they need to stay healthy and happy.  From trail heroes to treasured teachers, Atlas and Ajax are more than just ponies — they’re living legends.  Thank you for helping us honor their legacy.

Deacon

Deacon  is a resilient and gentle Morgan horse whose strength and spirit shine through his past hardships. Having bravely survived both a severe bout of colic and a debilitating case of founder, Deacon now lives with lasting effects that require ongoing care and attention. His daily routine includes a carefully managed, low-carbohydrate diet to keep him comfortable and healthy.

Despite his challenges, Deacon’s heart is wide open. He adores gentle brushes, long grooming sessions, and scratches in all the right places. What he loves most, though, is time—quality time spent with people who move slowly, speak kindly, and appreciate his quiet presence. Deacon’s story is one of survival, trust, and the healing power of connection. He’s a living reminder that with love and care, even the most broken can thrive.

Finn

Finn is a registered Paint horse and the youngest member of the Caspian’s Heritage herd. With a striking coat and a sparkle in his eye, Finn is full of life, laughter, and curiosity. His high play drive keeps everyone on their toes—whether he’s untying knots with his lips or trying to sneak a nibble of your hat, he’s always up to something. Friendly, gregarious, and endlessly entertaining, Finn thrives on connection and craves attention from anyone willing to offer it. His playful nature and big personality have made him an instant favorite with visitors and volunteers alike. Finn reminds us daily of the joy found in presence, play, and partnership.

Onza

Onza  is a senior wild mustang from Sulphur Springs, Utah, carrying the rare and striking grulla coloration—a living thread to the Sorraia horses of Portugal, brought to the Americas with Christopher Columbus. His lineage is as ancient as it is noble.

Though blind in one eye, Onza moves with effortless grace and quiet strength. He remains cautious, as any true wild horse would, yet he’s curious and open—especially if you come bearing treats. His connection to people is built slowly and respectfully, always on his terms.

At Caspian’s Heritage, Onza lives as close to the wild as our sanctuary allows, with space to roam, herd companions, and the freedom to be who he is. His spirit is untamed, his presence profound—a reminder that true beauty lies in freedom and resilience. His heart remains forever wild, and we are honored to walk beside him.

Bull

Bull is a senior Quarter Horse who made his way to Caspian’s Heritage after years of barrel racing in Texas. Though his past was marked by a heavy hand and demanding expectations, Bull’s spirit remains unbroken.

Now in his golden years, Bull enjoys a peaceful life alongside his best buddy, Onza. He spends his days wandering the pastures, curiously observing the world around him, always hopeful for a treat or a gentle scratch from a kind visitor.

His mellow, easygoing nature and quiet strength make him a fast favorite among those who meet him. At Caspian’s Heritage, Bull is finally able to rest, heal, and be appreciated simply for who he is.

Lyla

Lyla  is a small Welsh pony with a quiet spirit and a big story. For much of her life, she remained skeptical of humans—watching from a distance, unsure if they could be trusted. But here at  Caspian's Heritage , Lyla is being given the time, space, and gentleness she needs to rediscover what partnership can mean. Through patient connection and heartfelt consistency, her curiosity is beginning to stir. Each day she takes a step closer, growing braver and more confident, beginning to believe that humans might just be worth knowing after all. Watching Lyla blossom is a reminder that healing takes time—and that trust, once earned, is a powerful and beautiful thing.

Wilbur

Wilbur  is a 30-year-old Thoroughbred enjoying a well-earned retirement at Caspian’s Heritage. Once a proud and dashing hunter-jumper, he was known in his youth for his elegance, athleticism, and fine presence—a truly fancy fellow. Today, time has turned his coat nearly white, and he has lost some muscle tone and mobility, moving with the slow stiffness of a life well-lived.

Despite these changes, Wilbur’s spirit remains bright. He adores being groomed and scratched, soaking up every moment of companionship with the same enthusiasm he had in his prime. Although he can no longer chew hay or graze like he used to, he thrives on a carefully prepared soaked feed—an essential but costly part of his care.

Providing for Wilbur’s special needs is no small commitment, but the joy he brings to our visitors and the quiet dignity with which he continues to meet each day make it more than worthwhile. His presence reminds us all that every stage of life is meaningful and deserving of love.

Roxie

Roxie is a senior Quarter Horse whose weathered frame and sensitive spirit tell a story of hardship, survival, and now, healing. She lives with several chronic conditions: Heaves, the equine version of COPD, makes breathing a constant effort; PPID (Cushing’s disease) affects her hormones and overall regulation; and Hyperesthesia causes intense, involuntary reactions to touch or stress—likely a lasting imprint of her past.

Before finding sanctuary at Caspian’s Heritage, Roxie endured long stretches confined in a stall, followed by time trapped in a paddock with an aggressive stallion and no route to safety. Her body and mind still bear the memory of those traumas.

But here, at last, she has the freedom to exhale—literally and figuratively. She grazes gently in the breeze and watches the world with wise, wary eyes. Though she loves people deeply, her conditions mean she must be appreciated at a respectful distance. She adores quiet companionship: someone sitting nearby, speaking softly, or offering a special treat. She finds peace in presence.

Roxie struggles to keep weight on, as even breathing takes effort some days—but make no mistake: she is radiant. Her beauty is not in her body alone but in the fierce, quiet strength she carries within it.

At Caspian’s Heritage, Roxie is not just surviving—she is finally seen, safe, and gently cherished.
